Prasadani Kumari

Drawing and painting became an addiction for me, from a very young age. From there on, I started to paint according to the 'topics' that were given to me by my family, my school and eventually the society at large.

As I grew older, I felt that my skill as well as the desire to paint grew with me, maturing with each new phase of experiences. In a way, I can say that I transformed from a girl to an adolescent, and from an adolescent to a youth, on my canvass - my hope and despair expressing themselves through this.

'What did you paint here?' This is a question that I often encounter myself with, to which I always respond with a general answer: all these canvases bear witness to the way I felt the meaning of this existence, the way I endured the infinite joy and the infinite suffering of this existence.

This is why, without, perhaps, a complete consciousness, I ended up capturing my own figure and my own portrait. But still I want to present this moment - that I called 'Self' - not so much as an expression of my personal life but as an expression of existence in general.    This series is called PULSE.   In a way, this is the wonder of visual art - a moment where something deeply personal can only have meaning as an encounter of an otherness.
